Business spotlight: Medi8 Therapy
Stuart Thomas founded Medi8 Therapy, a relationship coaching and support service based in Daventry, Northamptonshire because he likes to help people be the best version of themselves.
Stuart has always been interested in people and relationships, and he'svended up making a job out of being the person people talk to when they're not quite sure what to do next. He says:
"I'm pretty straight talking and I don't do jargon. I listen, ask questions, sometimes challenge people a bit and help them work things out. I offer a toolkit of ideas, but I'm not there to tell people how to live their lives, which is probably just as well!"
Stuart works with couples and individuals on things like communication, conflict resolution, trust, infidelity, and emotional connection. He also works with people who aren't necessarily having relationship problems but have got a lot going on and need somewhere to talk things through.
Medi8 Therapy was awarded a £2,000 Build Your Business grant, funded by West Northamptonshire Council through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund which meant Stuart was able to invest in things like office equipment and marketing, rather than having to try and do everything on a shoestring.

Medi8 has grown much more than Stuart expected. He has now worked with more than 200 clients and picked up some lovely feedback along the way, including a few small business awards! Stuart says:
"The whole idea behind Medi8 is pretty simple, really. Give people somewhere they can talk honestly, without judgement, and help them work out what they're going to do about it. Real relationships. Real change."
How BIPC Northamptonshire helped
Stuart says that BIPC Northamptonshire has been brilliant for him:
"When I started Medi8, I knew how to do the actual work with people. Running a business was a different story! BIPC gave me somewhere to go for advice when I had no idea what I was doing with things like marketing, business planning and growing the business. They also introduced me to people and opportunities that I probably wouldn't have found on my own.
The Build Your Business grant was a big help too. It gave me £2,000 to put into the business at a time when that money could make a real difference.
Most importantly, BIPC gave me confidence. When you're starting a business, there are plenty of moments when you wonder whether you're doing the right thing. Having that support around me helped me believe in what I was building"
Best advice received
One of the best pieces of business advice Stuart has received is:
“Launch messy - Don't wait until everything is perfect because it never will be. When I started Medi8, I didn't have everything figured out. I learnt as I went and, more importantly, listened to what my clients actually needed.
That has meant the business has grown and changed along the way. I've added new services and changed things based on what people were asking for. So, my advice would be simple: launch, listen and adapt. You don't have to have the whole thing worked out on day one.”
