Wellness is best when it’s woolly
Charlotte Miller, founder of Woolly Wellness, has loved animals since she was a little girl growing up next door to a dairy and sheep farm. She would often sneak over the back wall to visit the sheep, feeding the lambs in springtime. Those early moments among the animals instilled in her a lifelong connection with nature and a deep appreciation for the calm and comfort animals bring.
For 22 years Charlotte worked in a local primary school and while she loved her time there, her passion for animals never faded. She discovered Coloured Ryeland sheep, known for their friendly, calm nature and found two wonderful sheep, Daisy and Doris, and grew her flock.
One day, Charlotte took Daisy and Doris into the Primary School where she worked, to join a Forest School session. There was a little boy in school who, despite her daily efforts, had never spoken to Charlotte. As the sheep grazed quietly outside, she noticed him going closer to them, his curiosity growing. She asked if he’d like to stroke them. He reached out his hand and as his fingers sank into the thick fleece and he smiled. He looked at Charlotte and said, “It’s so soft.” He helped to feed and groom the sheep, chatting to them quietly, and from that day on his confidence and communication grew.
That was when Charlotte truly understood the power of connection between humans and animals and how these gentle interactions can make real, lasting changes. From that spark, Woolly Wellness was born.
Charlotte became an Animal Therapy Practitioner, dedicating her time to nurturing her flock and bringing a little Woolly Wellness to schools, nurseries, care homes, and community groups.
Charlotte has also developed a passion for working with the fleece from her sheep. She washes, cards, and weaves it by hand on a peg loom to create natural mats and other handmade pieces. These woolly creations are available to order, each one made with care using sustainable, natural materials from Charlotte’s own sheep which is a beautiful way to bring a touch of Woolly Wellness into your home.
Charlotte joined the Build Your Business programme to focus on marketing her business and attended various events including:
